General Specialties Flood-Guard for 2" Flood Drains

2-Inch "Expanded"
I have 2 floor drains in my 70's construction home and since we moved in a couple of years ago, have had constant issues with the drain nearest the washer/dryer backing-up into the basement (not much, but enough to make a 3 foot diameter constantly wet) whenever the washer empties.

We had a plumber out to inspect the drains and pipes and even had the pipes cleaned to make sure there were no obstructions or excessive build up. We even changed our laundry supplies to the high-efficiency brands that reduce the amount of lather produced.

All to no avail, so I was looking for a permanent solution which led me to this product.

As the amount of water backing-up into the basement was small and only very temporary (a second or two), I figured a stop would do the trick and, after fitting it, it has, so I'm very happy about that!

The only issue I had with the product was that I had assumed the "2-inch" size applied to it's unfitted...

Does what it says...
My problem was the first floor kitchen sink, one floor over a basement floor drain. If you let the water out of the kitchen sink drain too fast, it backed-up through this drain, leaving the floor soapy and dirty. Tried snaking the line downstream, even had a plumber see what he could do. The drain line just doesn't take water fast enough.( at least not a kitchen sink full of soapy water)
Bought this item, and the problem is fixed! Water doesn't back up from the basement drain anymore, so I'm happy.
Other reviewers have mentioned a couple of caveats, which I agree. Water from the floor has to drain through the holes in the top of this device, so I might be in trouble if a washing machine hose breaks, because this device will not drain off water as fast as a wide-open hole does (duh!) (I should really replace those old washing machine hoses anyway!). Also, the unit is a little on the small side for my drain hole. It fit, but I had to screw the screws in all-the-way to...

Caution
I'm not sure if this works or not, because the hanging rubber plunger fell off the bottom as I tried to install it. A word of caution, it's probably best to super glue the plunger to the metal rod to which it is connected so it can't come unscrewed and fall down the pipe. Now it may cause a sewer flood in my basement, instead of preventing one.
